Sweeping Changes in NERC CIP Standards:In less than a year NERC changes will move all registered facilities into regulation scope. The new scoping process will identify and assess all critical bulk electric systems assets and rank them by priority of low, med and high.
Many of the CIP-NN standards will be consolidated into two new regulations: CIP-010-1 and CIP-011-1.
The changes will mean that all tasks must be completed to be considered compliant, the 3 year audit cycle will be shortened to 12 to 24 months, there are new subject areas and asset charasteristics in scope and greater need for paper evidence to prove compliance during auditing.
These changes impact the staffing and business processes for the new facilities falling into scope. The wiser facilities are organizing and getting ready, the facilities who are not ready will face financial penalties that range for low to severe.
